The redevelopment of Union Station as a multi-modal transportation hub and the de facto “living room” of Lower Downtown Denver fulfilled a multi-decade vision that evolved through several generations of community plans for the site. I was the Urban Design Lead for the City master planning team, as well as a member of the 95 person Union Station Steering Committee that guided the refinement of the development concept for nearly a decade. It was through these extensive processes that the location of the transit components evolved, and decisions were reached on the location and scale of private development. I was a strong advocate for private development flanking the station to help define and activate the public arrival plaza. As a member of the Design Review Committee, I was involved in detailed design guidance of the public space and amenities.
