The New Denver Zoning Code was the result of a five-and one-half-year process to completely reconsider the entire form and function of the code. The process resulted in the unanimous adoption of a code that prioritizes context and form over the use-focused structure of the previous code.
The new code identified six major contexts, ranging from downtown to suburban, and thirty-eight form subsets. The process of drafting the code involved hundreds of neighborhood meetings as well as work with various development industry groups. The expansion of the number of zone districts allowed for greater flexibility and choice when matching appropriate zone districts to existing or desired contexts.
I was a member of the management team throughout the process with specific focus on identifying and defining appropriate building forms to match use and context typologies.
